The Sunday night market

Among colorfull souvenir and food stands you’ll find your self in a crowded small street in the heart of the old city.

It’s the biggest night market in town and one of Chiang mai’s biggest attractions,  you’ll find anything here and if we’re talking prices you can definitely get it cheaper than the mall’s, the food as well is an experience on its own. With a mixture of traditional Thai food, Japanese and other oriental styles, the Sunday night market is definitely my favorite place to snack and try new stuff.

All though because of the current Thailand curfew the market has been setting up tents a little earlier, you can find them around 6 o’clock, there’s no way to miss it.

You’ll find loads of souvenirs, hand made products, accessories,  clothes, paintings, religious articles, food, sweets, snacks, fruit smoothies (one of my personal favorites) and more.

The market it self is an experience you can’t miss, its a big part of the Thai culture, here you’ll find that there’s more to eat and do during night than day, not necesarily partying, but the city itself comes to life once the sun goes down, the streets get flooded by food stands and people, locals and farangs (tourits in Thai).

All though Chiang mai is growing and becoming more tourist friendly city, it’s still not one of the mainstream tourist attractions in Thailand, so not all the menus are in inglish and not everybody speaks inglish, but a lot of people do, so getting around is not hard, you also get to see a lot more local beauty here and get to know  the real lifestyle, and not just the island party tourist life.
